Building FileMaker Tools with Claude Code

What happens when a FileMaker developer gets curious about Claude Code and decides to test it on something real? Sam Rulon-Miller shares how he challenged Claude Code to build two open-source FileMaker developer tools.

DDR Analyzer — Upload your FileMaker Database Design Report XML and explore your schema with interactive, searchable dashboards. Built after Sam wanted to test Claude Code on a problem he knew well enough to verify the output having experience with FMPerception and browser DDR HTML reports.

FMS Log Analyzer — A browser-based tool for parsing FileMaker Server log files with performance insights, bottleneck detection, and anomaly alerts. Built by feeding Claude Code actual log files alongside blog posts from Soliant, Portage Bay, and Beezwax — which dramatically improved the quality of the first pass.

Both run entirely in the browser (no data leaves your machine), are deployed on Vercel, and are open source.

Sam will share what the Claude Code workflow actually looks like in practice - what it nailed immediately, where it stumbled, and how to direct it effectively as a domain expert rather than a web developer.

Time permitting: using Claude to quickly prototype WebViewer widgets.
