FMS Detective: Building a Mac App in the Age of AI

For the last two months Sam Rulon-Miller spent hours every night after the kids went to bed building something he, and the FileMaker community, needed: a real user-friendly log analysis tool.

FMS Detective is a native macOS app that parses all 12 FileMaker Server log types, connects to the Admin API for live server context, and includes AI-assisted analysis via local LLM. Running it on his own server, Sam found things hiding in plain sight: misconfigured API users, cascading script errors, and a user experiencing a significant slowdown every Monday morning that traced back to a 500k+ record table resyncing her local cache after the weekend.

Sam will demo FMS Detective, discuss what building it taught him about FileMaker Server, and make the case that FileMaker developers are uniquely well-positioned for the AI coding moment, and why our skills matter more now, not less.
